About our Firm
Finneseth, Dalen & Powell, P.L.C. is a general practice law firm with offices in Perry and Jefferson. The firm practices in Central Iowa, with an emphasis in Dallas, Greene, Boone, Guthrie and Polk Counties.
The present law firm is the successor by merger of two well-established Perry law firms, Shirley, Powell & Finneseth, P.L.C. and Willis, Sackett & Dalen, who merged in 2008 with a belief that their similar practices could better serve their clients and the community by joining together.
Today, Finneseth, Dalen & Powell has six attorneys and seven support staff committed to the well-being of its clients.
The Shirley, Powell & Finneseth Law Firm began in 1963 when Donald Shirley and his son, Alan "Pud" Shirley, set up practice with George Soumas. In 1968, the Shirleys moved their practice to the Jewell Building and were joined by James B. Smith. In 1973, the firm of Shirley, Smith & Shirley purchased the First National Bank Building and practiced there until building the present law office at 1401 Willis Avenue in Perry. In 1974, John Powell joined the firm. In 1995, Scott Finneseth joined the practice and the law firm acquired the William Ostlund practice at 213 South Wilson in Jefferson. In 2006, Mark Powell joined the firm.
The Willis, Sackett & Dalen Law Firm began in 1961 when Blake Willis and his son, Ned Willis, along with George H. Sackett, and his son, Bob Sackett, set up practice on Second Street in Perry. George H. Sackett practiced with the firm until the mid-1970's. Ned Willis and Bob Sackett practiced together until Ned died in 1998. In 2000, DuWayne Dalen joined the firm.
The firm strongly believes in service to the community. Attorneys of the firm currently serve on the following organizations and boards: Dallas County Bar Association, Greene County Bar Association, Perry Rotary Club, Perry Kiwanis Club, Perry Industries, Perry Chamber of Commerce, Otley Masonic Lodge, Bock Family Foundation, Dallas County Conservation Board, and Raccoon River Valley Trail Association; as well as providing pro bono or discounted services to several local non-profit organizations.
